National Cask Ale Week - Monday, 6 April 2009

Your Pub Web: www.caskaleweek.co.uk

This Easter, Britain's brewers, pubs and consumers are uniting to celebrate Britain's national drink, cask ale - also known as real ale - with a week of festivities.

Hundreds of events will take place throughout the UK for the first ever National Cask Ale Week (6-13 April), organised by CAMRA (The Campaign for Real Ale), Cask Marque and leading British brewers and pub chains.

Unlike tea, coffee, wine and lager, cask ale is not only unique to the British pub but it is hand crafted here in the UK, usually using only four raw materials - hops, malted barley, yeast and water - which are very often locally sourced.

Cask ale is a British icon and should be celebrated as such. Key themes for the week include:

Monday 6 April: National Beer Day
Wednesday 8 April: FemALE Day
Thursday 9 April: Introduce a Friend
Friday 10 April / Saturday 11 April: Visit a Brewery Day
Saturday 11 April: World's Biggest Toast

National Beer Day - Monday, 6 April 2009

Web: www.mymarstons.co.uk/gen/caskcalendar.aspx

The week will be launched with Cask Ale being sampled to all National and International travellers at St Pancras Station, including such high profile celebrities as Melanie Sykes. We’re calling on the Government to recognize this as an official holiday.

FemALE Day - Wednesday, 8 April 2009

Web: http://www.mymarstons.co.uk/gen/caskwhat.aspx

This is the day where we will focus on getting more women to try cask ale as only 16% of women have tried cask ale. Annabel Smith from CaskMarque, and our own Emma Gilleland will be at the forefront of this.

Introduce a Friend to Cask Day - Thursday, 9 April 2009

Web: http://www.mymarstons.co.uk/gen/caskwhat.aspx

We’re asking all cask ale drinkers to introduce their non cask ale drinking friends to cask ale. This will be supported by high profile celebrities, and through the power of social networking sites.
